Top 5 Popular Programming Languages Worldover

Top 5 Popular Programming Languages Worldover

Top 5 Popular Programming Languages Worldover

It is by far a confusing period for Software Developers considering the autobahn-proportion evolutions taking place in their niche. But it is also a good time for those with their ears to the ground to utilize this information to up their ante and take-up that which is apt. There are numerous programming languages (PL) out there and newer ones keep sprouting. Looking at JavaScript frameworks in itself we realize that this trend isn’t surprising.

The good news is you don’t have to know them all. Read through and get to know the most popular ones.

Once you got a gist of that, it is imperative to pick the languages that will lend credibility to your present knowledge level. It should also enhance your employability and add value to your present scenario.

How you do perceive that – if your intention is to imbibe a functional paradigm, then pick a functional language. If any other factor such as structured, procedural, imperative, or declarative, pick the language best suited to that paradigm.

Programming Languages

There are hundreds of metrics to consider before declaring the top programming languages. The most authoritative are: Tiobe and GitHub.

Tiobe Programming Index

Programming Languages

Tiobe (the company dedicated to software quality) has been generating an index of the most popular programming languages for decades now. The results are updated regularly by compiling data from several hundreds of sources from all over the globe.

For information of how Tiobe calculates its index, we shall take that up in another article.

The Tiobe Index is similar to market share indicator, the percentage reflects the market share that a particular programming language holds. We have provided you with the top 12.

To come up with a credible list of languages, Tiobe considers factors such as number of professional developers, third party vendors, and training courses available. The results are also garnered from analysing search engine results.

GitHub

Programming Languages

Another reliable source to get an indication of the popularity of a programming language is the largest code repository in use as on date – GitHub. GitHub shares reports of their statistics on the programmer community every year.

With very credible information from these 2 sources and other resources we endeavour to predict the future of a programming language, the pace of growth of these languages and ones that project a great influence. These perceptions are worth deliberating on to keep you ahead of your cult if pondered upon.

Finally GitHub Review provides amazing information published annually. The data assists to decipher the most popular languages utilized and the fastest growing ones.

Go through the below write up on the nuances of the top 5 programming languages and put the information to good use. We shall summarize on how they’re used, why it’s popular and why it’s loved.

The Top Programming Languages

1.   Java

Programming Languages

Java has been holding either of the top two positions for a decade now. The world’s top firms utilize Java to build desktop Apps and backend web systems. Having Java on your CV certainly ensures that you will always have work on your hands. There are several factors that ensure Java’s popularity.

Portability: Java Virtual Machine (JVM) has made it possible for Java to be run on diverse systems. Making it the most popular Android language due to which a plethora of Android Apps have been built in Java.

Scalability: Most web based firms are Java based. With Java you have Scalability as an added advantage hence it is popular with firms for whom scalability is a necessity. Example Twitter- who moved from Ruby to Java.

Large Community: The popularity among the community also plays a huge role to ensure a feasible future for the language.

Being statistically typed language it’s quicker and easy to maintain as it would be low on bugs. Being compatible backwards also pays dividends as businesses do not worry of rewriting codes each time a newer version is released – as older versions works alongside the newer versions.

A massive Stack Overflow and GitHub communities ensures developers assistance on any issues they may encounter.

Programming Languages

2.   C Language

 Programming Languages

C has been adopted by Microsoft, Apple, Linux and Oracle. It is one of the oldest and popular languages’ due to its universal portability. C is predominantly utilized for embedded systems in cars, electronics and other devices. Most mobile phones and electronic gadgets are either written in C or is influenced by the language.

C is considered as an Universal Language for programming and any programmer will benefit learning C. Being a portable assembly language has abled it gain valuable ground. C is a low-level end of the spectrum language and functions to relatively dip in and out of assembly language, depending on the hardware architecture and compiler support.

C is tailor made for OS and embedded systems (car dashboards) due to relatively small runtime and is perfect to keep systems lean. Many algorithms are written and shared online in C. C++ and C# are also among to top languages thereby accentuating the influence C possesses. Robotics relies on C for systems programming.

3.  Python

Programming Language

Python has emerged among the top languages rising steadily in the last decade. Tiobe Index has ranked it among the top 5. Some of the most exciting technologies utilize Python as their programming language. Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Robotics depend on Python. Cyber-security too is a hallmark of this language.

Python is relatively easy to comprehend and pick-up. Hence Python is the most popular introductory language incorporated in the syllabus of institutes in the present scenario. This feature also makes it possible for experienced developers to imbibe as an additional second/third language.

4.   JavaScript

JavaScript

JavaScript is among the most popular programming languages due to the plethora of web browsers in use nowadays and the top as per GitHub in terms of pull requests.

Though there have been serious complaints with respect to JavaScript, the PL has managed to hold its repute against the new age languages and will continue to have a substantial role on the web.

Very many startups and technology firms inculcate JavaScript because of features such as simplicity and speed. Javascript works on the backend via the Node.JS framework. This PL also allows developers to induce interactive effects to their web pages. There is a propensity to build web Apps entirely in JavaScript, even though it has the ability to work in tandem with HTML.

5.   Ruby

Ruby

Many Silicon Valley unicorns have incorporated Ruby as their programming language such as Airbnb, Twitch, GitHub, and Twitter. One of the primal reasons could be because of Ruby on Rails, a full-stack web application framework that runs Ruby and perhaps is dependent on. Hence very many tech start-ups too have adopted Ruby.

There are few reasons why Ruby garners so much interest by many clients.

Firstly, the syntax is rudimentary and gives the developer to get more done with minimal coding.

Secondly, Ruby on Rails empowers a web application’s deployment in optimal time as compared to any other framework.

This is why startups adopt Ruby as it has the least time to market. Ruby is flexible and an asset for prototypes and is a dynamically-typed PL, hence is laborious to maintain at scale. As the App grows its dynamic nature obscures the source of code errors and consumes computing resources. But Ruby cracks on Scalability. That’s why Twitter was forced to adopt Java and divorce Ruby.

Life until you want to make a living

Am 50.

Half a century on the face of this earth. I am really amazed, not all who were born on the earth made it this far. When I was in school- maybe around 10 years old, I just couldn't imagine how life would be after another 10 years. Now when I look back, I fail to understand why I thought so.

At 50 you begin to look back and understand where you went wrong, rather than thinking where you were right. You keep thinking what you missed and if you are lucky maybe you will think what you gained over the years. The lesser the regret, better the your quality of life.

Life can never be generalized, this I understood at 50. But there are organic stages that needs to be accomplished. For the first 5 years of life, not much memory will be etched in the conscious regions. The next 5 years would be pretty much similar for most of us. Naughty, bratty, busy bodies, school, home, friends and games.

The first 10 years makes a lot of impression on the course of your future. After this stage is when the real you emerges. Who you are, how you think, this is when differences in personalities are noticed and we form friendships based on this variances.

What is important now comes to the forefront. Education and what you would aspire to become in your later years. By then you are 20 you are on your way after having decided you future course of action or of course you are dragged to some course of action with or without you efforts.

And you become conscious of the worldly standards set for you to toe. You try to break off from it, sometimes for the better or sometimes for the worse.

For me too the first 5 years, I do not retain much in my conscious sphere. The next 5 till the age of 10 yes, I was the naughty kind or didn't think of consequences before attempting anything. Luckily I was in one piece after all those adventures. After 10, I began understanding what life is and thought about the meaning of life.

Of course did not find a satisfactory answer to it.

I started putting more efforts into education and of course sports played a big part in my life. By 15 I was made to understand that you have to go by the age old rules. Study and finish education, get a good job or a well paid one, get married and have children.

So by 20 I find myself in a engineering college and studying hard, even though there are plenty of distractions. My dad is not doing good, he has an incurable sickness and is home- sort of semi-paralyzed. So at around 23 am out to get into the real world. And what to I realize this world of which we had wonderful ideas is really granite underfoot.

Jobs are hard to come by, the situation was bad then. Employers want to know how much you can earn for them and then they want to decide how much of it they are ready to part with to you. And I have a debilitating debacle, I have a speech issue. I find it really hard to communicate, even giving my name is an effort. So there it is, all my education seems to pale because of this.

My parents did not take steps to clear this debacle, but then maybe the medical industry was not so developed regarding such ailments. In their days it did not do much harm to people with such debacle as most would be pen-pushers (the educated lot) and so communication was not imperative to have a lucrative job.

But in this age for you to move higher up the hierarchy, communication was a factor that stood right up there. Your technical education was of use for the first 5 years.

After that it was man management. I took up a degree in management and now was B.E and MBA a very preferred combination that could take you heights. But you still needed communication, to take you up there. This I lacked and it broke my life. The first 5 years I worked like most and when the time came for me to move up in life and job, things became static.

Why Masala Dosa?

Just mention Masala Dosa, and you are hungry all of a sudden. A staple food that has its
presence in most Southern states of India. You can have this anytime, breakfast, lunch, as a
snack or even dinner time. It’s very much a wholesome meal and not too heavy on your wallet.

Primarily made up of rice and lentils - rice flour & urud dal in equal proportion, for the Dosa batter.
It’s usually served with a couple of chutneys (one usually coconut) and sambar. The stuffing is
potato, so there it is your carbs & proteins, all in one go.

There are different varieties of Masala Dosas, due to subtle variance in the recipe. These are
derived either from the proportion of the ingredients to make the batter or the finishing touches
given to the potato filling. A red chutney applied to the inner parts the dosa to impart tanginess
and spicy aroma.

This chutney is usually made of gram, red chillies, ginger, garlic and lime.
Then of course with or without butter, with butter called as benne-dosa. Bangalore has a gamut
of possibilities to sample this sumptuous stomach-filler. Right from the street food vendor- who is
open only from 6pm to 11pm or restaurants that are serve the whole day.

My early memories of having a Masala Dosa was during my schooling days.
For sports activities we travelled to other schools within Bangalore. After the
event was done, we would all head to the nearest restaurant and have a snack,
the famed Masala Dosa was my take all the time.

There are umpteen possibilities on how you can consume a Masala Dosa, which is
a pointer to your tastes. Some start from the sides. Some from the middle.
Some eat the potato filling at last, some early on. Some do not touch the chutneys
or sambar, while others savor it too.

Few of the famous joints that serve this famed dish are: MTR, one of the quintessential
manufacturer’s of Karnataka cuisine, usually as breakfast or evening snack. Maiya’s,
they add a dash of raagi in the dosa batter, this makes the Dosa softer. While at CTR
(in Malleswaram) the Dosa is much crispier (my nieces seem to prefer this variety).
Then we have these late night joints at Avenue Road, Raja market.

They are the food-truck kind of joints, and operate from 7pm to midnight. These roll in once the
garment establishments have downed their shutters, which Raja market is renowned for.
Or then at Sajaan Rao circle- famous for their street food. South Indian style and purely
vegetarian fare. On late night jaunts we usually visit Ramu’s Hotel.

This is a 3rd generation family owned Masala Dosa speciality eat out. You don’t sit,
you order for it and eat it while you stand on the road. Weekends its teeming with
crowd due to which the traffic is prohibited, while during weekdays the die-hard fans
go for their dinner there.

Go on and sample a Masala Dosa, am sure most you would have. But then what you gotta
do is keep checking various joints, hotels, restaurants and get invigorated by the endless
possibilities and tastes on offer.

Colours

Colors
Whenever we hear the word color, the first image that creeps into our mind is the vibrant eye-catching detail it brings along. Just looking at a host of colors brings us feelings of joy, happiness and joie de vivre. And believe it or not there are more than a million colors that a human eye can see and distinguish.
Colors have their own meaning too, like white is associated with purity or angels. While black to evil. Red is associated with passion, green with envy, yellow with fear. Green is now days associated with a push for a greener environment. On food articles we see a green dot or red dot – to signify the product composition. Holi is a festival associated with colors. After the festival, we see lots of people walking around in different hues of colors- we know they had a hell of a time with colors.
How important is color to us, we could almost affirm that it brings meaning to our vision. God made this world so colorful. Imagine going to tropical regions, the greenery just fills us with peace and tranquility. While a visit to the beach, the blueness of the ocean captures our soul. Or even a visit to an iron ore the redness of the soil fills the entire space and the vehicles that travel in that region is all red in color.
We have road signs on our road to control traffic and provide safe driving. These are made up of different colors to signify its meaning and importance. Red is for stop, the reason red is used as a stop sign is because it has the highest visibility. We have studied that white light is made up of seven colors, ‘vibgyor’. During schooling days am sure we remember the science experiment with these seven colors on a wheel when rotated it looks white, would have taken us all by surprise.
Colors are food for the soul. Being in a pensive mood, just visiting the nearest garden or during holidays traveling to famous locales like the Himalayas literally washes away our pains. Just imagine seeing things in black and white like the good old Charlie Chaplin movies, and now imagine if they were in color. We have heard of old black and white movies being made into color to enhance our viewing.
Colors are food for the soul, by the creator to enjoy and enhance our life. We should always to thankful to God for such beautiful colorful creation and the ability to enjoy it.

History of search engines

History of search engines

A search engine is a software designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The first search engine to come up was Archie in Sept 90, it stands for "archive" without the "v". Created by Alan Emtage, of McGill University in Montreal. A few others are, Lycos (1994) Excite (1995) AltaVista (1995) acquired by Yahoo, Dogpile (1996). One of the first "all text" crawler-based search engine was WebCrawler (1994).

It allowed users to search for any word in any webpage, which is the standard for all search engines now. Microsoft first launched MSN Search in 1998 and was providing search services based on Inktomi's search engine. Later on Yahoo! switched to Google's search engine until 2004. Then it launched its own search engine called msnbot using their technology and web crawler. Yahoo! and Microsoft finalized Yahoo! Search powered by Microsoft Bing technology in 2009.

Long Haitus

It has been almost a year since my last blog entry. I just can't believe that time runs away so quickly. Life flies when you are happy people say, but i would say when you are sad you never see time pass by. I thought life passed quickly only when faced with happiness, but does not seem to be that way. Happiness- far from it, i never been in such misery in a very long time now.

I recollect, years ago- to be precise circa 1999. That's when it all began. First time sorrow hitting me squarely in the face. In your youth or teenage, sorrow does not hit you, until and unless there is an issue with your love life. That gives you sleepless nights- nothing else. But as you hit early 30's it is then the pressures of life that gets you. I lost my job and was finding it difficult to get one.

Thankfully i was not married, so I was left alone to bear my sorrows and to deal with. But then i guess because i was single, i was not really responsible very early on in life. The reason why i did not move on in life was because of  my speech debacle due to which i could not get a good enough job. When there are other mouths to feed, then life hits you at your solar plexus.

But then circa 1999, loss of a job didn't really put me to the test. I tried finding employment, but did not succeed.

I had a problem with my speech and that certainly played truant with me on prospecting a new job.
In fact coming to my speech problem. This is something in between me & my God. For i know, there isn't any human intervention as to how i ended up with a stammer.

Of course it's in the genes. My uncle - from dad's side had this predicament and one of my cousin's - also dad's side again had the same debacle. I did speak to him as to his take on the issue.

He said either you cry over it or live with it. But i had an issue, i couldn't cry over it nor could i live with it. After completion of my engineering/education i had to have good communication skills to land a job. But for me - even when someone asked my name, it was a big task for me to give my name.

I wasn't in an industry where you could have a desk job and earn enough money to make a living. But for my cousin it was different, he inadvertently reached where his communication skills (vocal) was not important. He was into communication- but the written word. In fact my entire childhood i spent knowing what to say, but not knowing how to say it.

Sometimes i wish i could live my life again to know how it feels to tell people what they wanted to know from me- even if it was just my name. So here i was after the completion my education, safely cocooned until then. And now suddenly out to face the big bad world.

And the big bad was clear, any shortcoming would be blown out of proportion so as to be taken advantage of. Every penny you earned had to be earned- nothing came easy.

I had an opportunity to advance on the education front, but for some reason or maybe the torture i endured on the look of some of my lecturers i decided not to. I decided it was time to begin working and earn a living, after all my folks look forward this, after years of upbringing; but all that came to naught within an year itself.

In a year's time i realized your engineering isn't going to do you much good. So i went ahead and did a Management degree. But all the more realizing that my communication skills counted.

I started of real low down in the hierarchy. There wasn't any other go. Had to. there wasn't anybody to risk taking someone with such bad communication skills. The employment scene also was not be rosy picture.

In fact i also did a course in Computers, but the IT market was in turmoil so i was left with no choice but to continue in my said field. Now when i sit, looking back there isn't regret but hopelessness only.

Updating this blog. Today is 16th July 2020.
We all are under the spell of COVID-19. Life is tough.
I have finally landed the job that I dreamt of - Content Writer.

And of course before this job I worked for Nandi Toyota as the CRM.

CRM- Customer Relations Manager

Yep, i worked on my speech and got over it up to a certain extent. My job was customer relations and ensuring satisfaction of customers. And there was lots of talking to do.

There were lots of meeting with Toyota officials and I reigned supreme.

Now the only thing that i lack is a partner. So looking forward to that life too now.

Love

                                          Love

Gifting during occasions is a part of the Indian tradition. I have mostly found men wanting at the task, while women seem to have a natural flair for it. To comprehend its intricacies, I picked the brains of a close friend – a woman of course, to decipher how she always came up with the perfect gift for every occasion. What she told me really made sense, wonder why I never thought of it.

She said it is very simple, “All you gotta do is know the person, put yourself in their shoes.” Knowing the recipient is imperative, otherwise stick to flowers or a gift cheque. My credo of gifting is, what I perceive useful universally or worthy or valuable. So here is the solution to all male-folks who find difficulty in gifting their friends for any occasion.

Take a good look at them – more than what the eye can see, for example, someone who attends college or goes to office – you could gift them a good bag, could be leather or a one branded depending on your budget.

I remember my  mom gifting my aunt a torch, very thoughtful cause my aunt wakes up early & found it difficult to get her bearings right. But then my predicament comes back when you think about well to do folks, they own the very best of everything so anything (expensive or mundane) would not suffice.

I was part of a Christian Youth Mission & we made it a point to visit Orphanages, Old Age Homes, Destitute Centers, etc., On one such visit to an Old Age Home I met a very old lady (Ms.Irene), in her late eighties or early nineties.

She had been in the Old Age Home for a decade odd years. The Office staff had told us that she came from a well do family & had a few children. Most of them were either abroad & a couple of daughters who lived in India, but Irene was not keen to stay with her daughters as she did not consider it right.

And since most of that age are busy with children, life & family chores taking care of the old even parents are relegated to the professionals.

Due to my work schedule, I had to part ways with the Christian Youth group. But as the said Old Age Home was near to my home, I visited it on a regular basis & spent time with Irene. She was always in a good spirits even though she was not too mobile & had to depend on others for most chores. She was confined to the Old Age Home.

Her relatives, her daughters & their family members made regular visits, but her son visited her ones in a year- like a pilgrimage, trooped in with his family & bringing goodies in tow.

It was at this point of time I got thinking what love is – as one aspect & the other what is that you should gift a person whom you care for. When you are invited to a birthday party or when you go for a wedding, what do you gift? Or when you go to a relative’s house or meet a friend after a long hiatus, what is the apt gift for the occasion, something that would be valued by the receiver.

As I made my regular visits to the Old Age Home I usually carried some sweet-meats. Or on certain occasions if I could beat up something at home, I made it a point to carry it to them & found the folks more receptive to stuff from home/homemade eats. Irene would most probably be lying of the bed with her eyes to the door, I could almost feel her waiting to meet up with me on Saturdays.

I would have my packages in hand, she would lay a customary glance on it, I would hand her the package, she would open it & try a piece of snack, something that caught her eye, there would be the slightest of the twinkle in the eye if it did titillate her palate, maybe somewhere in her memory she related it to her past.

She would always take a bite of it & place the rest of it nearby – she really knew how to savor good stuff. We would talk on a myriad of topics - the outside world, the latest happenings in the city, in the county, her long lost friends. Then it would be about my home, my folks, their kids. Then Irene would open up to share the secrets of the Old Age Home, the inmates, who visited whom.

The presents received, daily squabbles with the staff, if there was a death.

She would talk about her past, about days spent at her home, her relatives, children, family, kids. At this point of time I got thinking as to what is that could be given to Irene of value to her. What is that which could be treasured.

Then I realized the irrefutable & precious gift to give anybody is your time. Ones given, history records it- there is no denying it- never forgotten. Anything else you give, gets washed away or is lost or disfigured with time. Only your time stands the test of that greatest adversary.

After several months, I could literally feel Irene becoming weaker. She had lost the will to live, there seemed to be no meaning- sometimes I think we ourselves are our greatest enemy. She was tired waiting.

One day the warden called me asking me to take time to meet Irene, the day I reached there I found some of her folks there too. When she saw me there was a hint of smile on her lips, I walked up to her & held her hand. I felt a very gentle squeeze.

I know when I leave this abode we never take anything with us, but yet I think there are some things which will follow us up there. I felt richer than the rich then. The greatest gift a man can give to any human being is their time, you tell them that you are valued & you are giving them something which can never be taken away.

Something etched in history. Love is to give a part of yourself.
